Is Dolby's Sound Egg the gadget of CES 2010?

We met up with Dolby Laboratories who showed us their advanced audio technology for the CES show. Maybe the most impressive thing on the show is Acousticom's Sound Egg. What you'll see in the picture below is a dream for any audiophile or gamer or just somebody who can't listen to the music or game at the loudness setting she or he desires.

Sound Egg is the real treat for audiophilles

The Sound Egg is a 5.1 surround sound audio chair. The chair is basically a mobile acoustic chamber that will give you the most realistic sound in audio technology with a full 20 Hz to 20 kHz frequency spectrum - although we have to add that numbers don't mean anything when it comes to the warmth of the sound in the chamber. Sound Egg comes with five Full-Range Speakers and a 10" Subwoofer that are located in an Acoustic Isolation Foam.
In order to ensure the sound quality, this is a 5.1 Dolby Digital-certified surround sound system - a perfect audio experience for one person. The chair can be connected to a television or a computer and its unique acoustic insulation foam means there will be no more complaining from your family members when you pull all nighters playing World of Warcraft or watching Star Trek with max volume. :-P

We had an opportunity to try it out and the feeling inside was like no other, as you can see  from the photos. First of all, you can't hear a person screaming in front of you, since you're completely isolated and yet, this was not a claustrophobic experience. Personally I am claustrophobic and this chair didn't gave me any of the feelings I might experience in crowded elevators of hotels here in Las Vegas.

What is not so good about it is a price at $1,450 for a chair, but audiophiles might call it a "sound investment."
