Point of View Announces Tegra Tablet
10/27/2010 by: John Oram
While nVidia was pushing companies such as Notion Ink and ICD and their concepts, which are ways off from becoming actual commercial products, Point of View worked in silence to become the world's first company to launch an nVidia Tegra based tablet. After a trial run using alternative hardware, such as VIA and Intel Atom CPUs, Point of View has officially announced a pair of Tegra-based tablets. Their Mobii Internet tablets are excellent for checking your email, reading the news or even watching movies while sitting on the couch. You don't need a mouse, a keyboard, nor wires.
Marketing talks, Point of View walks: Their Mobii is the first available Tablet based on nVidia Tegra 250 processor
There is a 10.1-inch Mobii tablet with the Tegra dual-core 1GHz Cortex A9 ARM CPU with Google Android 2.2. The NVIDIA Mobile GPU enables true multimedia features which have been inaccessible in the past.
The Tegra-based Mobii tablet has a 1024x600 capacitive multi-touch screen, hardware accelerated 3D / video and Adobe Flash support. System memory is 512MB and there is 512MB of NAND Flash memory. The built-in memory card reader uses a MicroSD card of up to 32GB. There is an integrated microphone and HDMI output. The battery is rated at 3300 mAh.
Streaming, data transfer or web access is by the integrated Wi-Fi b/g network adapter or the optional 3G adapter. Another neat feature is that the USB 2.0 port functions as a host so you can just plug in a USB pen drive to load data.
Besides nVidia Tegra 250-based tablet, Point of View also launched an Rockchip-based tablet using an older version of Google Android:
The Mobii 7-inch Tablet with the ARM 9 Rockchip 2808 600 MHz and is pre-installed with Google’s Android 2.1 operating system. This model has an 800x480, advanced resistive touch screen LCD. There is 256 MB of system memory and 4/8/16 GB of NAND Flash memory with a Micro SD card of up to 32 GB. There is an integrated webcam and microphone along with an integrated display stand. The battery is rated at 1500 mAh.
Point of View was established in the year 2000 and is known for their graphics cards which are seen in more than 50 countries. They are based in Holland with a European, multi-lingual sales team. The company includes Point of View Taiwan, Point of View China, Point of View Hong Kong, Point of View France, and Point of View USA.
Both Point of View Mobii tablets will be available in November. Point of View products are available in numerous mainstream European mass market electronics stores such as Media Market, Saturn, Dixons, and Carrefour.
