GeForce GT 430 Shows Up at Best Buy in San Francisco, CA

Even though the official street date for the GeForce GT 430 debut is in a week from now [October 11th, 2010], large electronics chain was eager to hit the sales targets and start selling these babies earlier... according to a post on EVGA Forums, Best Buy in San Francisco is already selling Galaxy branded boards.
If you went for shopping at Best Buy in Bay Area, you could have spotted this: a Galaxy GT 430
The boards are available of shelves and carry a price of $109.95, meaning this is a successor of long-lasting GTS 250 graphics board, based on a 55nm G92b graphics chip. Unlike the majority of lower-end Fermi boards that carry a significant overclock, Best Buy is selling stock clocked parts: GT 430 is based on entry-level GF108 chip which ticks at 700MHz. 96 cores inside the chip operate at 1.4GHz, while the 1GB of GDDR3 memory operate at 800MHz in DDR mode [1.6 billion transfers per second].
As you can see, the box is smaller than the ones Galaxy used on previous Fermi-based boards such as the GTX 460
The box is somewhat smaller than the Galaxy GTX 460 1GB GDDR5 in the background of one of the images, and the source stated that the box itself is similar to boxes nVidia board manufacturers used for their GTS 250-based cards. Read: compact form.
Can this beat its predecessor? Somehow we doubt it...
Performance-wise, we're not so certain that a 96 core GPU can beat the 128 cores deployed by the previous gen part, especially given the fact that beside higher clocks [738MHz for the GPU, 128 cores ticked at 1.78GHz], G92b also carried a 256-bit memory bus and was paired to the same GDDR3 memory as featured on Galaxy's stock GT 430. Thus, we doubt GT 430 can beat GeForce GTS 250, even with all the architectural improvements Fermi brought forward. Maybe GT 430 with GDDR5 can have better luck.
