On the heels of the CES 2011 show and just-released lineup of 4G LTE smartphones, notebooks and tablets, Verizon Wireless issued an invitation to a press invite next Tuesday in New York.
Verizon CEO Ivan Seidenberg held a keynote Thursday at the CES 2011 show in Las Vegas but he didn't even make a brief remark about what was on everyone's lips - the rumored arrival of a CDMA version of the iPhone to the nation's #1 wireless network.
Not even today, when the carrier had another press event at CES to discuss its lineup of 4G LTE devices for the first half of 2011 was the Verizon iPhone mentioned.
And then, just a few hours later and when Verizon was still exploiting the buzz surrounding its CES announcements, came an unexpected invitation to a press event in New York next Tuesday, January 11, at 11am - that's 1/11/11 at 11 am.
Is this the big day the iPhone fans have been waiting for since the original iPhone landed on AT&T's sluggish network? Hard to say, but watchful readers could note that the timing of this event might correlate to the latest rumors calling for a February 3 launch of the Verizon iPhone with a redesigned antenna system, shown below.
An unverified source told 9 to 5 Mac that the media event is definitely about Apple's phone:
Release date time-frame window narrowed to Feb 9-16. The vacation blackout rumors are true from Feb 1-16 however. Verizon employees don't know sh– right now. This is Apple's baby, not Verizon's… Also, the ramp-up to the iPad2 will be the 1st week of March with it being released within 30 days. Just got this info today as well.
Whatever Verizon has to discuss next Tuesday must be of big importance if they chose not to announce it at CES, the world's largest gathering of geeks. Check out Verizon's invitation below.
