Phil McKinney, HP's CTO Leaves The Company

Following the arrival of Meg Whitman, some proper announcements were made, but came too late for Hewlett Packard's CTO, who just announces his departure from the company.
Several HP insiders reached out to us to let us know that Phil McKinney is departing HP. Officially, Phil McKinney is retiring from the company, but in his own words,
"This is not the traditional retirement. I'm not planning on spending my days playing golf or sitting around the house driving my wife crazy. I have far too much passion, energy and ideas to sit on the sidelines."
Furthermore, Phil's comments seem to start a worrying similarity to Rahul Sood's own musings when he decided to departure HP, after the company absorbed VoodooPC and killed innovative products such as Firebird or Envy 133, which without any doubt is one of best notebooks we have ever seen.
To us, HP needs an infusion of innovation and when the company launches a daring product, they need to give time for that product to achieve product impact. Otherwise, HP will remain a company in which a recently fired Chief Executive once said
"you Voodoo guys are too obsessed about brand and experiences. I'll sell millions of PCs this month regardless of brand..."
Naturally, we all know that the executive in question didn't had a clue what he was actually doing.
According to Phil, his retirement gives him "the freedom to write, speak, mentor, advise and teach without the restrictions of the traditional employee/corporate structure."
Our sources told us that this is very worrying trend for HP, and that Meg Whitman needs to pull things together by infusing fresh blood into the company and pushes the "phenomenal products out the door". The projects we are referring to are considered highly innovative and are planned to debut with the Windows 8 operating system. HP needs courage to launch those products though, not the "mee too" attitude company had with the uninspiring webOS-powered tablet.
Phil's first project though, will be a book titled Beyond The Obvious.
