Verizon Wireless Denies They are Blocking Google Wallet on Galaxy Nexus

Lately, there have been rumors that Verizon Wireless had been blocking Google Wallet functionality on the yet-to-be-released Galaxy Nexus phone. Currently, the rumor is that the phone should be available by the end of the week but there's a chance that this rumor could complicate things.
We contacted Verizon regarding this issue and we got comment back pretty quickly from Jeffrey Nelson of Verizon Wireless,
"Recent reports that Verizon is blocking Google Wallet on our devices are false. Verizon does not block applications.
Google Wallet is different from other widely-available m-commerce services. Google Wallet does not simply access the operating system and basic hardware of our phones like thousands of other applications. Instead, in order to work as architected by Google, Google Wallet needs to be integrated into a new, secure and proprietary hardware element in our phones.
We are continuing our commercial discussions with Google on this issue."
Well, there you have it. Verizon claims not to be blocking any applications, yet claims that there are some complexities that need to be worked out with Google and claim that they are still in 'commercial discussions' with Google on the issue.
Considering that Google Wallet is a NFC based application, the truth is that Verizon is probably already thinking about their own NFC application within people's phones on their network. The reason why so many people believe/d that this rumor about Verizon Wireless blocking Google Wallet is because they are notorious for demanding complete control of such things. This is especially believable when people take into consideration how much Verizon is excited about NFC and getting their customers to use Verizon as their credit card company rather than their banks.
With Google Wallet, consumers can add their own personal credit cards to their Google Wallet account and charge them without actually having them on hand or ever taking them out. Google Wallet also wants to promote easier peer to peer payments through their network with recent the integration of Google Checkout into Google Wallet.
Needless to say, we're hopeful that Verizon is not actually blocking Google Wallet and that we'll see the final result in hopefully a few days.
