Following excellent sales result of well over 100 million U.S. dollar revenue for F1 2010, Codemasters is looking to establish themselves as the premium source of F1 entertainment. It looks like the market was desperate for an F1 game, since we've been told that Codemasters earned more money with F1 2010 than Sony did with two of their last titles combined.
F1 2011 will bring "wide-ranging technical and gameplay advancements on and off track and vastly extended competitive and co-operative multiplayer components". Yes, you will be able to play online with your friend as a teammate. Furthermore, the game will feature all 20 circuits that were supposed to take place in 2011 season (Bahrain Short Circuit is still scheduled to be included in F1 2011). Also, F1 2011 brings the return of the Nurburgring.
For race fans out there, there is a special treat: just like F1 2010 enabled gamers to drive on Yeomen race track (Korean GP) before actual Formula One drivers were able to, F1 2011 will enable gamers to drive on Jaypee International Race Circuit BEFORE Indian GP will take place. There is no doubt in our minds that F1 drivers will jump on this title and do a lot laps on their PCs and consoles while flying around the world - as was the case with Korean GP and admittals by reigning world champion Seb Vettel, Jaime Alguersuari, Felipe Massa, Rubens Baricchello, Nico Rosberg, Timo Glock and many others.
From the technical aspect, the game will utilize furher evolution of the EGO game engine or "EGO Game Technology Platform," as Codemasters likes to call it. This is the evolution of the engine that started its life with GRID and continued with DiRT 2, F1 2010 and DiRT 3. The game will be available for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Mobile gamers will not be forgotten, as F1 2011 will see the light of day on Nintendo 3DS and Sony NGP (Next-Gen Platform). The release dates for 3DS and NGP were not available at press time.
However, this is not everything. Codemasters also initiated a very interesting giveaway: the company is initiating a YouTube contest in which fans are expected to ask a question about the game in a video fans will upload to YouTube. Main prize: visit Codemaster's HQ (Birningham, UK) in May and become the first gamer to play the game. For more news, you can follow the F1 2011 development team on Twitter as well.
