Kinect Arrives on PC: Microsoft Releases Kinect SDK for Windows 7
6/17/2011 by: Theo Valich
There is no doubt that Microsoft's Kinect add-on for Xbox 360 game console is a runaway success. The add-on was created after Microsoft and Sony were caught napping and Nintendo beat them with motion-gesture games on Nintendo Wii console.

Microsoft Kinect goes from console-only gimmick to a development platform on Windows 7
Kinect was developed by the Israeli company PrimeSense, which is now solely focusing on expanding the platform reach of Kinect. Product of their work with Microsoft is the beta release of Kinect SDK for Windows 7. Now, even though Microsoft claims that the SDK is intended for non-commercial and educational purposes only, this is a typical disclaimer set forth by the company that doesn't want to support the SDK for some reason, such as spending financial resources on it until the platform cristalizes.
The SDK will work solely on Windows 7 and you can probably expect applications arriving with the arrival of Windows 8 in the fall of 2012.
