Nokia Connection conference in Singapore was marked with the introduction of several phones, out of which MeeGo-based N9 gathered most attention. Nokia's N9 (codenamed: Lankku) is the successor of N8 camera-superphone, which had a very successful campaign until Nokia announced the death of Symbian.
Nokia N9: Cleaner design than Apple's iPhone?
In a way, N9 is the smartphone that shows what the future of Nokia would be and the user interface is quite impressive and very smooth, as you can see in the video below:
Specifications of this phone are also quite impressive, as it supports no less than nine network frequencies: WCDMA 850, 900, 1700, 1900, 2100 and GSM/EDGE 850, 900, 1800, 1900MHz.
The phone features a 3.9" WVGA (8540x480) AMOLED ekran with curved Gorilla Glass, not a single button on the front of the case. Image below shows all three available colors: black, cyan (base blue) and magenta (base red). Computing power is delivered by Texas Instruments OMAP3630 SOC ticking at 1GHz (ARM Cortex-A8 CPU, PowerVR SGX530 GPU), combined with 1GB RAM, 16GB NAND Flash and 64GB storage via microSD card - with 80GB of storage memory, this is currently the highest capacity phone on the market.
This is also one of the first phones that support new generation of NFC (Near Field Communications) mobile payment standards, but this is not new for Nokia: mobile banking was originally deployed on Nokia phones over a decade ago.
On this image, you can see the curvature of Gorilla Glass and all thre available colors: magenta, cyan and black
Camera fans will be pleased to see that Nokia retained all the camera capabitilies from the N8: auto-focus 8MPixel, Carl Zeiss wide-angle glass lens, 2x LED Flash, HD Video capturing (720p). Also, there is a front VGA (640x480) camera for video calls.
As far as battery capabilities go, 1.45 Ah battery should be good for 11 hours of talk time on GSM and 7 hours on WCDMA networks, as well as up to 450 hours of standby time (WCDMA). If you're hooked to GSM receiver, standby time reduces to 380 hours.
HD (720p) video playback will run out after 4.5 hours, while music playback should last for 50 hours straight. Phone will be available in third quarter of this year.
