A 200 Dollar Laptop: ASUS MeeGo Netbook Debuts for $199.73

When Nicholas Negroponte said that he wants to build a $100 laptop, many analysts and even companies went on the record to state that you will never be able to build a computer for twice as that. Today, ASUS launched a $200 mobile computer.
Under the name Eee PC X101, ASUS is shipping an Intel single-core Atom N435 processor ticking at 1.33GHz paired with 1GB of DDR2 memory, an 8GB SSD, microSDHC card (up to 32GB expansion), a 10.1" display with typical netbook resolution (1024x600) and a 3-cell 2600 mAh battery.
The most interesting part of this netbook (besides its price) is the operating system: ASUS is the first company to deliver MeeGo-powered product on developed markets. In order to keep Microsoft's legal dogs at bay, Eee PC X101 will also be available with Windows 7 Starter Edition for a 25% higher price ($249.99).
You can expect this netbook to hit the US shore in August and Europe will get its share in September.
