AMD's Next-Generation Fusion APUs Get a Name: Comal, Virgo

GlobalFoundries released a slide which detailed AMD's 32nm products for next year: Trinity Series of APUs is divided into Comal (desktop) and Virgo (notebook), as well as Radeon HD 7000 Series...

Upcoming 32nm SOI Products from GlobalFoundries
Before you get all your knickers in a twist, yes - we all know that Southern Islands GPU architecture is a 28nm bulk silicon which will be manufactured by TSMC (for the time being). However, just like all 2011 Fusion APUs feature a Radeon HD 6000 GPU, 2012 will see Trinity APU manufactured in 32nm SOI, with the GPU shifting from current Evergreen series to SOI'ed version of Northern Islands. According to our sources, the 32nm Radeon HD 7000 GPU inside the Comal (Mobile) and Virgo (Desktop) APUs will be a close family member of Cayman GPU, with its VLIW4 architecture.
The Piledriver core is a 10-core Bulldozer Enhanced architecture, also arriving in 32nm SOI process. But the good news is that Trinity APU will have the same Bulldozer Enhanced architecture as the dedicated CPU-only parts. From the looks of it, the upcoming "Orochi" Bulldozer architecture will have only two to three quarters of shelf life. Then again, Intel's 22nm Ivy Bridge is approaching.
