Rightware to Launch Universal Mobile Benchmark? Android, iOS, Windows
10/23/2012 by: Theo Valich
From the looks of it, Rightware is a company on the move. Following its recent arrivals of Roy Taylor (ex-MasterImage 3D, ex-Nvidia) as the new Chief Sales Officer and Derek Perez (ex-Nvidia) as the new Chief Marketing Officer, the company is reorganizing to be able to address wider range of markets.
The newly designed website puts a large accent on Kanzi UI solution as well as a series of benchmarks, which are currently separated in Basemark and Browsermark families. Basemark itself is separated into several benchmarks:
As you can imagine, making a clear distinction between five similarly named benchmarks represents quite a challenge. In order to address the situation, the company is currently finalizing suite simply named Basemark X. While the final product name is still unknown, the goal of this new benchmark is to offer a unified suite that will test both mobile and conventional devices, regardless of architecture and operating system used.
- Basemark CL (OpenCL benchmark)
- Basemark ES 2.0 (OpenGL ES 2.0 benchmark)
- Basemark ES 3.0 (OpenGL ES 3.0 benchmark)
- Basemark GUI (User interface benchmark)
- Basemark OS (x86, ARM, MIPS Android benchmark)
Rightware "Basemark 2.0" looks to target all major platforms, regardless of them being mobile or more conventional form factors
We believe the new benchmark will support both x86, ARM and MIPS CPU architectures, OpenGL ES and OpenCL on Google Android, Apple iOS and Microsoft Windows 8 operating systems. The results of the benchmark will be visible on their PowerBoard database, which gathered a lot of attention as it is de facto a standard for comparing released and unreleased mobile devices (smartphones and tablets).
The benchmarking scene is looking to become exciting again, and if you ask us, it could not come at a better time.
