Blizzard Entertainment finally announced the release date of Diablo III, the much-awaited action RPG. On May 15th the wait will be over and players from around the world are able to venture into the realms of Sanctuary and battle the denizens of hell.
This relieves a lot of fans of the series who over the course of the last months have been constantly bugging Blizzard representatives about a definitive date. Until now they happily dodged these inquiries. Players were adamant that judging from the current state of the beta the game looks ready to ship. The Diablo III beta test is still going strong, or as Mike Morhaime the CEO puts it:
"After many years of hard work by our development team and months of beta testing by hundreds of thousands of dedicated players around the world, we’re now in the homestretch."
A few days ago it has been publicized, that at the time of shipping the game will lack the announced PvP arena system. Blizzard promised that it will be delivered in a later patch to the game. They argued that at this time it doesn't make sense to delay the whole game for this feature any longer, so they decided to scrap this feature and get the game out there.
Diablo III is now available for pre-purchase in Blizzards online shop at a suggested price of $59.99 (or €59.99 – Blizzard seems to be agnostic to conversion rates). Another way to pre-purchase Diablo III would be via the World of Warcraft Annual Pass, which we dissected in detail. This promotion will end on May 1st at 12:01 AM, so if you are interested make sure to keep this in mind.
