Star Trek needs no introduction. One of cult TV series with tens of millions of fans across the globe inspired creation of many gadgets we use today. In fact, many of innovations some industry giants claimed they've invented came long before in the shape of Star Trek: The Original Series (for example, mobile phone), or Star Trek: The Next Generation (tablet, notebook).

Earlier this year, Paramount announced that Star Trek: The Next Generation will be digitally remastered, with cleaned up special effects erasing almost 20 years of difference between the first release and the Blu-ray version - with Season One debuting on July 24th.
The original footage compared to the new, enhanced images - even though the resolution stayed the same, the amount of data on scene is significantly larger
How good (or bad) is the remastered work? As you can see in the pictures accompanying this article - quite an impressive rework of the show that was "enhanced" with very basic special effects from late 1980s.
