Qualcomm Poaches Anand Chandrasekher, Former Face of Intel's Atom and Ultrabook
8/6/2012 by: Theo Valich
Last spring, Intel lost a head of Ultra Mobility Group as Anand Chandrasekher decided to pursue "other interests". He reemerged today as the Chief Marketing Officer for Qualcomm. This move is the latest in the series of highly talented people which decided to join Qualcomm, such as Eric Demers, who formerly served as the Chief Technology Officer at AMD.
We're not surprised to see Qualcomm continuing to scout for top talent, as our sources from various sides are telling us what positions the company wants to fill. Attracting top talent is something that Qualcomm needs in order to take their products from mobile phones and tablets to fully blown computing experience across the board. As you could read in our recent coverage of the next-generation Snapdragon processor, the company has the hardware capable of achieving just that.
However, Qualcomm also needs to have a strong marketing department, and hiring Anand Chandrasekher is one of right moves. During his 24 year tenure at Intel, Anand was the face of mobile - from Centrino to Intel Atom reference smartphones, which you know today as Orange San Diego, Lava Xolo X900 etc. Anand will report to directly to Steve Mollenkopf, Qualcomm's President and Chief Operating Officer. In a brief statement, Mollenkopf said that Anand's "extensive experience in marketing and management makes Anand well-suited to help grow Qualcomm's communications and marketing efforts across the world and to amplify our consumer offerings to new audiences."
