Blizzard News: Starcraft II and WoW Trailers, New Game on PAX East?
2/28/2013 by: Marcus Pollice
Leading up to the imminent release of the second part of StarCraft II called Heart of the Swarm, Blizzard Entertainment released an epic cinematic trailer for the game. The game will be released on March 13th but for now, this is as close as it gets:
Not only will Blizzard deliver the next installment of StarCraft II in less than two weeks, the release of a major content patch for the current World of Warcraft expansion (Mists of Pandaria) is scheduled to be released very soon. While an official release date is not yet announced, chances are the patch will arrive as soon as next week. A trailer was released to tease players about new encounters found in the new Throne of Thunder raid zone.
A new game will be unveiled soon, but not Titan
As if that wouldn't be enough news from Blizzard, there is more. In an invitation for PAX East sent to members of the press, the company hints at an announcement of a new game, reports Ars Technica.
The original statement reads: "We've been working on a little something, different from our other games, and we're pleased to invite you to be the first to see it," and continued: "It's not a sequel, expansion or that rumored next-gen MMO, but it's something we're excited for you to get your hands on."
Given the caveat in the statement, the only possibility left out of known unreleased products would be Blizzard All-Stars, which started out as a custom map for StarCraft II with DotA-style gameplay. DotA is short for Defense of the Ancients and was a popular fan-created map for WarCraft III. Those DotA maps themselves were originally based off a popular StarCraft map called Aeon of Strife. One of the developers of the later DotA maps was eventually hired by Valve leading to the development of Dota 2. Last year Blizzard lost a lawsuit against Valve, where their Dota 2 trademark was upheld which is why the originally planned Blizzard DotA is now called Blizzard All-Stars.
While at this point we don't know more than the company teased a future announcement, you can keep your fingers crossed till the March 22nd announcement. At least you can rest assured (or disappointed?) that it won't be an add-on for Diablo III or World of Warcraft or even the new MMO codenamed Titan. Just note that any of these are candidates for what Blizzard might unveil at BlizzCon 2013, which will be held on November 8th and 9th at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim (CA).
