Guy Kawasaki Asks if We Want Luxury Personalized Phones
3/21/2013 by: Denis Jelec
Only a couple of days ago we wrote about rumors regarding the possible future Motorola brand “X Phone”, and today some of them have been fortified with certain credibility by none other than Motorola’s Guy Kawasaki. Seems like the smartphones of tomorrow may actually be customizable like never before – or – Kawasaki is just playing around and teasing the fans of the dwindled company.
“Wouldn't it be great if you could personalize your phone like this?”, he asked on his Mobile Devices community on Google+ with included YouTube video of Porsche Exclusive. He posted the same content on his personal G+ page as well, and he replied to some of the inquiries and comments. Kawasaki never once said rumors were wrong, but he did say “I'm just asking a hypothetical question...”, and “I’m just a Porsche fan who works at Motorola…. That was not the end of the story, as one user accepted the game and said, “here’s my hypothetical answer… I would love to customize my new X phone to be one of a kind!”, and Kawasaki replied with “Let me see what I can do for you.” It is a curious response, if nothing else.
Guy Kawasaki has had a rich history with Apple, and he was one of the people involved in and responsible for marketing the Macintosh in 1984. He was the chief evangelist at the Cupertino company for four years, and he returned there as an Apple Fellow in 1995. Regardless of this background and love for Apple products – he joined Google at the very beginning of March this year – to serve as an advisor to Motorola and to create the aforementioned Mobile Devices Community on Google+. He is most likely the person focusing on the product design, user interface, marketing, and social media aspect of the rumored Motorola X Phone. In fact, he considers Android much better than iOS, as revealed in a recent interview with Entrepreneur.
We cannot say for sure when this phone will hit the market, and in exactly what way will it be customizable aside from previous rumors, but if these Kawasaki’s posts are to be taken seriously – X Phone might be the first of a kind in a mobile market. Kawasaki concluded the Entrepreneur interview with: “Motorola is at a crucial point similar to what Apple went through in 1998 when Steve Jobs returned. This is going to be a very exciting time for Motorola. That's why I'm here. It's called Guy's Golden Touch: whatever is gold, Guy touches.”
