Samsung Reveals Galaxy Tab 3, Their 2013 Tablet Portfolio Leaks
4/30/2013 by: Denis Jelec
Without much fanfare, Samsung has announced the arrival of the Galaxy Tab 3 Android tablet. Quiet announcement was somewhat expected, as the tablet itself is a fairly mediocre low end device. What is worth excitement, on the other hand, is the leak of the Samsung’s tablet portfolio for 2013, which includes the Nexus 11 as well as DUOS Galaxy Tab 7.0, Tab 8.0 and finally, Tab 11.
Let’s begin with the official information first – Galaxy Tab 3 is the device that belongs to the lowest segment of the tablets, carrying a 7” TFT LCD 1024x600 screen, an unknown dual core 1.2GHz SoC, 1GB of RAM and 8/16GB of expandable (via microSD) storage. Main (rear) camera is a 3MP shooter, while the one on the front is a 1.3MP. Tab 3 is running Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean). The GALAXY Tab 3 should come in two versions: Wi-Fi only model will be available globally beginning May and 3G version will follow in June.
What makes the Samsung tablet news actually interesting is the fact that an entire portfolio of 2013 devices got leaked to SamMobile, a publication that currently has a relatively good score rate when it comes to Samsung-related rumors. South Korean company is apparently willing to continue with the market saturation of all tablet form factors. Sources claim that Samsung is fairly busy working with Google on a new generation of the big Nexus (11) tablet, and initial information seems to be plausible, with the device having an 11-inch Super PLS TFT screen, 8MP and 2MP rear and front shooters, Octa-Core A15/A7 (Exynos 5410) SoC. Similar spec sheet is found on the upcoming Galaxy Tab 11 with the main difference being the SoC used - it will carry an older Dual-Core A15 (Exynos 5250).
According to the same sources, Samsung may have given up completely on the next generation Galaxy Note 10.1 due to the weak sales. Both Galaxy Tab 11 and Nexus 11 will not carry an AMOLED screen, and the only upcoming model using it will be the Galaxy Tab 8.0. Samsung is allegedly having problems with the burn-in on the 1080p 8-inch screen.
