The DirectX 11 row is getting more and more interesting. While talking to sources at AMD, some of our suspicions got confirmed, others were just a surprise.

May 13, 2009 will be marked as a giant day in history of GPU computing. AMD released world's first stock clocked card with a GPU ticking at 1 GHz. AMD was the first with CPUs [Magnolia], now the company repeats the feat with GPUs.

We spoke with several sources in the Far East about the 4890 and the possibility of X2. After initial "no way" statements from AMD GPG, an AMD interview practically confirmed the part.

Reviewing computer hardware can be a serious drag, especially if you have to run several driver revisions on the same hardware. Then again, if you discover something…it just might be worth it.

The rumored specifications were true once more: expect a refreshed GPU chip with 850 MHz clock, 1GB GDDR5 memory at 975 MHz and 124.8 GB/s of bandwidth. ATI's partner just had to state that they do have 4890 boards available for purchase wherever you are.

It looks like ATI pulled a big coup over Nvidia with its Radeon 4890 - the card now launches weeks ahead of its competitor on paper, GeForce GTX 275. 40.000 cards were dispatched to partners and distributors.
